North Star Direct Primary Care (DPC) practices a concierge-style membership model where the doctor prioritizes patient care and not insurance billing rules. The doctor is paid directly by the patients (not insurance), so they are able to have a smaller panel of patients (300-600 vs 2000-3000 traditionally). This allows the doctor to give patients same/ next day appointments that are 30-60 (even 90) minutes long, all the while with no wait times. Patients can also see their doctor as often as they need without copays, and have access to the doctor via text, phone, email, telehealth, office visits, and home visits.

Dr. Ma has been practicing primary care medicine in the greater Sacramento area since 2015, along with extensive experience in occupational medicine and urgent care conditions.
Her medical interests include preventive medicine (which led her to obtain a Master's in Public Health), holistic/ integrative/ lifestyle medicine, obesity medicine, and mental health. She strives to provide a holistic approach that involves not only prescribing medications, but include diet, nutrition, exercise, mental health wellness, and social/ spiritual well-being. Dr. Ma would like to provide you with proactive, preventive Healthcare to keep you healthy rather than treat you only with reactive Sickcare that the insurance system encourages.
Dr. Ma self identifies as a proud ally to LGBTQIA+ patients and strives to provide inclusive, compassionate, non-judgemental care no matter the gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, ethnicity, age, weight, etc.
She is fluent in English, speaks conversational Burmese and Japanese, and dabbles in wish-it-was-better Chinese. She is working hard to improve her medical Spanish.
She lives with her husband and their 2 adorable tuxedo cats, 2 silly chickens, and many beloved plants. Hobbies include traveling, bowling, karaoke, hiking, skiing/ snowboarding, scuba diving, and sometimes being a homebody.
